Mediating Modesty: Fashioning Faithful Bodies

Emma Tarlo, Reader in Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London, addressing the symposium held at the London College of Fashion on 15th June 2011. The event was hosted by the research project, part of the Religion and Society Programme, funded by the UK Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences Research Councils.

Emma Tarlo examines the online interaction between those of different faiths on modest dressing blogs and websites. In particular she looks at the range of exchanges, from appreciation to hostility, between Jewish and Muslim women. She also considers the extent of referrals from faith-based modest dressing websites across faith boundaries, or into non-faith domains. 26.53
