Mediating Modesty: Fashioning Faithful Bodies
Annelies Moors of Amsterdam University addressing the symposium held at the London College of Fashion on 15th June 2011. The event was hosted by the research project, part of the Religion and Society Programme, funded by the UK Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences Research Councils.
Annelies Moors is an anthropologist and professor of contemporary Muslim societies. She is also the primary investigator of an international research programme on “The emergence of Islamic fashion in Europe”. Focusing on Islamic dress, she discusses the meanings of the term modesty, with reference to the websites of online clothing stores. She explores the portrayal of modesty, and how references to modesty are associated with Islam and its practice. 25.10
