Announcing New Book Series

We are delighted to announce the new Ashgate AHRC/ESRC Religion and Society Series

Linda Woodhead, Professor of Sociology of Religion, University of Lancaster, Director of the Religion and Society Programme and chair of the Theology and Religious Studies panel in the 2014 REF exercise.

Series Profile:

The Religion and Society Programme has a strong international profile and links with related research programmes and centres worldwide. Published titles will have a wide appeal to an international English speaking audience. Books in the series will be authored by a range of new and leading international authors who have either been funded by the AHRC/ESRC Religion and Society Programme, or whose research is related to its work and priorities.

Themes for books in the series:

The first book contracted in this series is Understanding Muslim Chaplaincy by Sophie Gilliat-Ray, Stephen Pattison and Mansur Ali. Some themes for books in this series will include:

Youth and Religion; Law and Religion; Religion and Education; Religion and Media; Religion and Identity; Religion, Gender and Sexuality; New forms of Spirituality; Realignments and Reconstructions of Religion; Religion and Capitalism; Religion and Discrimination; Faith, Welfare and Civil Society; Religion, Violence and Terrorism; Religion, Theology and the Arts; Religion and Architecture; Religion in the City; Religion, Secularism and Secularity; the Return of Magic.

Submitting a Book Proposal:

Book proposals are invited for student/wider readership paperback texts, research monographs and edited collections, if they fit within the series profile. Please send your initial book proposals to either the Series Editors or the Publisher:
